Most SUP boards should be inflated to a maximum of 15 PSI or approx. 1 bar. If you want to use a SUP board, it is important to use the right air pressure. The right air pressure depends on the type of board you are using and the conditions in which you will use the board.
- For all-round boards, or boards you use for multiple purposes, an air pressure of 10-17 PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) is recommended.
- For raceboards the air pressure is slightly higher, about 15-20 PSI.
- For boards you use for downwinders, or board to cover long distances, an air pressure of 20-25 PSI is recommended.
It is important to check the pressure in your board regularly.
- If you have the board used in cold water, the board's pressure can decrease.
- If you use the board in warm water, the pressure of the board may increase.
Therefore, check the pressure in your SUP board regularly to make sure the board has the right air pressure and the safety is ensured.
Finding the right air pressure for your SUP board
If the sup board is used by a light person, such as a small child, the air pressure may well be lower. The correct air pressure is indicated in the manual for each specific model. Is your air pressure not keeping up? It could be that your SUP board is leaky.
