Funtube tow: What types are there?

With a funtube rope you can put on a funtube or tyre behind the boat and confirm these lines are almost always floating lines. This means that the funtube line floats on the water and is therefore always visible. The rope must be at least 15 metres long and no longer than 20 metres.

Is the line short? Then there will soon be too much tension on the line. However, a rope that is too long is also not good, as the boat driver will then have less control over the movements of the funtube.

In addition, we can distinguish between Two different types of funtube ropes. Below we briefly discuss them with you.

Bungee rope

A lot of tension quickly builds up on a funtube rope. This can be at the expense of both the boat and the funtube itself. The elastic component of a bungee rope ensures that the pulling force will be less intense, so that both the rope and the funtube will last longer. Moreover, there is less chance that the rope will simply give up.

Funtube bridle

In order to prevent the line from getting caught in the boat's propeller, we recommend using a funtube bridle to be used. The bridle is attached to the left and right back of the boat and forms a V-shape around the motor. Because of this, the tow rope cannot get entangled in the boat's propeller and you avoid a lot of damage to both the funtube and the motor.

Recommended line strength

It is good to know to which line strength the funtube rope must meet to prevent the line from snapping. We have therefore listed the approximate line strengths per number of people for you below:

  • 1-2 persons: line strength of approximately 1100 kg
  • 3-4 persons: line strength of approximately 1900 kg
  • 5-10 people: line strength of approximately 2800 kg

You do not necessarily have to take the line strength into account, as it is indicated for how many people the rope is suitable. A line strength of approximately 2800 kg is primarily used for a banana boat where you can sit with more than 4 people.
