Wetsuits for children: what should you look for?
Before you actually decide to buy a wetsuit for kids, it is important to take a number of things into account. Think about things like the size, thickness, colour and model.
Not all wetsuits are the same, as they differ quite a bit in, for example, their fit. Below we are therefore pleased to tell you more about the important factors to consider when finding a suitable wetsuit for your child.
It is important that your wetsuit fits well when you go out on the water. Not all wetsuits have the same fit, so it is important to pay attention to this.
There are also different models available, including fullsuits and shortys. Here it is wise to base your choice on the water activity you are going to practise and the weather you intend to use the wetsuit in.
With any kind of clothing, it is of course essential that you wear the right size. This is no different for wetsuits. In fact, it is probably even more important that your wetsuit fits well.
- You want to be able to fully enjoy your water activity without being disturbed by loose parts of the suit. Make sure you always choose the right size and if necessary order one size bigger or smaller just to be sure.
During your activities on the water you also want to look good. In that case it is good to know that children's wetsuits are available in different colours. Choose your favourite colour or colour combination to look your best during your adventures.
The thickness of a wetsuit for children is very important as it determines how warm the suit is. There are different sizes for thicknesses, namely 2mm, 3/2mm and 5/3mm.
A wetsuit with a thickness of 2mm is suitable for wonderful summer days when the water is still a bit cold. Should you fall into the water? Then the wetsuit will make sure that you keep your temperature.
Are you going to do any water sports on a cold day? Then a thicker wetsuit is essential to keep your body temperature. In that case, choose a thickness of 3/2mm or 5/3mm. So you don't have to worry about the chance of falling into the water. In cold temperatures, combine the wetsuit with other accessories, such as water shoes and water gloves.
Another important factor when choosing a wetsuit for your child is of course the price. You may not want to buy the most expensive one right away, which is understandable.
However, we can already reassure you that the wetsuits in our range are all made from high quality at a low price. Therefore, take a look at our selection on this page and find the perfect wetsuit for children.
Fullsuit or Shorty wetsuit for children
The choice of a fullsuit or shorty wetsuit for your child depends entirely on the temperature in which you intend to use the suit. With a fullsuit you are better protected against cold water than with a shorty. This is because a shorty is a wetsuit with short sleeves and legs, which means that your body is less protected against cold water.
Do you go to the water on a hot summer day and the water is already at the right temperature? Then a shorty can be a sensible choice. This also gives you more freedom of movement than a fullsuit. However, should it be cold outside? Then always choose a fullsuit, because you have to do everything to keep your body at the right temperature.
What about the sizes of thicknesses in children's wetsuits?
As you may have heard, children's wetsuits are available in different thicknesses. The thicknesses are also indicated by a certain size. Here we can make a distinction between 3 different sizes in thickness, namely 2mm, 3/2mm and 5/3mm.
A suit with a thickness of 2mm probably speaks for itself, since the wetsuit in this case is 2mm thick. There are also two sizes of thicknesses which may not mean much to you: 3/2mm and 5/3mm. We would like to explain it briefly.
If we talk about a thickness of 3/2mm this means that the wetsuit is 3mm thick around the torso and 2mm thick at the arms and legs. A thickness of 5/3mm means that the suit is 5mm thick around the torso and 3mm thick at the arms and legs.
The reason for this is that you usually need to be able to move your arms and legs well during a water sport. That is why they have chosen to make the wetsuits a bit thinner around the arms and legs, so that you still have a lot of freedom of movement.
